Fitness First, Scalpens Court and Balloons

Well, I joined a new gym, Fitness First. It's a total meathead gym straight out of the 80's (they have a tanning bed in the changing room, red track lighting on the walls of the spinning room, and neon lighting in one room) but their classes seem good and they have childcare so that's all I care about. Zumba yesterday kicked my ass. I have taken a lot of different Zumba classes before but the instructor was like a young 20's professional hip hop dancer or something with all fast moving upbeat dances with way more complicated steps and it was probably equivalent to an hour of jump roping. I was a sweaty mess but it was great! A whole lotta booty shaking going on. Between that and 4miles walking total to get there and back, I should be whipped into shape! You have to sign up for childcare one week out (seriously you call at 9:15am and there are already no childcare spots for 10am that day a week out) and have to call the morning of to hold a place in a class for that day. I've started calling at 8:55 when the creche opens at 9 so I get a spot. They probably think I'm a pushy American but oh well. :)

The kids have had a great time playing and battling with these rocket balloons we put up for Chris' birthday last week:

Right next door to us is this building, Scalpen's Court, which dates back to the 1400's (as a Merchant House). It had been used for several different things over the years and remodeled along the way and they actually didn't realize until later that it dated back so far. They discovered it when the run-down building started falling apart and uncovered the original facade. It has since been restored and is the "most complete medieval domestic building in Poole." They have set up an old Victorian school room and have all of these super old toys and everyday items from various centuries and they host a free craft for kids. Very interesting. Really though, they had me at "free admission". :)

I don't think these old metal bikes went very fast:

Old rocking horse (and stationary horse?):

Check out the strap-on ice skates:

Really neat old pinball machine:

Old buggy and various other items:

These old baby cribs don't look very comfortable:

Old desk:

Taking notes on their slates:

Old classroom. The kids are actually sitting:

Tie dying (and learning about different natural ingredients they use to dye). Free craft every Mon. and Tues. during summer break. We'll be back. :)

I really like this pic for some reason. This is the alley between the pub and Scalpen's Court and the path for us to get to our front door:
