Crabbing off the pier!

They keep botching the weather forecasts lately (like Monday when it was supposed to be cloudy and 75 but it was 60s and raining ALL day long including the 4miles walk to and from the gym). Thank goodness we wore rain coats that day, just in case... (And stuck it out so we could pick blackberries along the way.) Today was a good one though. It was supposed to be cloudy but ended up being sunny and 70s. We played some hide and seek and climbed on the cool tree outside the pool and then decided to go crabbing after some quick sandwiches for lunch.

We had so much fun crabbing--this is our new favorite free (once you have the net and bucket) activity! You just attach a little bit of ham lunchmeat or bacon as bait.  I must admit, the first crab we simply took from the pier steps. I spotted him sitting there sunning on the mossy steps and went and put him in our bucket with the help of a kind old gentleman. He was a big feisty one with interesting markings. But, then we proceeded to catch three more so he had some buddies. There was one that was on the side of the net that dropped off when we were pulling it out so we almost got another one as well. We are addicted!

Crabbing is a popular activity for kids here on a nice day. This was just a portion of the people crabbing all along the pier:

Caught another one!

We let them go on the boat launch when we were ready to head back and watched them scurry sideways back into the water:
